This post combines two of my favorite things. Bikes, and photography.
Stan Engelbrecht and Nic Groble are two friends adventuring through South Africa, on bicycles, looking for and meeting people who share the same passions they have about biking. They capture their experiences with these people through photographs. The photographs, along with the short stories told by the individuals give us a tiny glimpse into the diverse lives they live. Put simply, Stan and Nic are making friends and learning from others all while riding their bikes.
South Africa is a microcosm of the larger world, home to many different cultures, social classes and laced tragedy and victory. Racism is deeply rooted, and segregation is still present today. Stan and Nic's bike project aims to connect people who otherwise wouldn't be connected, through an ordinary and simple object- the bicycle. They are trying to knit people, of all walks, races and classes together through a common love. I find that simply beautiful, and honorable. It's easy sometimes to forget that we aren't all that different. It's easy to forget that no one is greater than another.
